Creek Road (Sault Ste. Marie, ON) is located off 3rd Line, just west of Carpin Beach Road. There is a school bus turn-around after which the road is no longer plowed in the winter. Be sure not to park in the turn-around as there are 'no parking' signs all over.
The road continues unplowed, but with many snowmobile tracks and even an abandoned truck leading up to the Voyageur Trail. The creek also runs alongside the road in a deep valley with lots of scenic rocks and icicles. Turning east onto the voyageur trail will lead back toward town. Turning west will bring you to the look out (a misleading sign says 500m to the lookout, but this clearly did not include hiking through multiple elevation changes).
Cross the shallow creek and start climbing. The trail goes straight up the very steep valley slope. It is quite the climb, but at least when you get to the top, there are more hills to climb. At least the slope gets a lot less steep, and its a very scenic climb.
You will eventually reach the top, but don't let that fool you. There is one more valley to tranverse; although this one is much more shallow and much less steep.
On top of the other side of the second valley, the trees begin to become more evergreen until you approach the lookout. The view from the lookout is quite breathtaking, with another rock in the foreground, quaint farmland in the mid-ground, and the St. Mary's river in the background.
This marks the end of this segment of the Voyaguer trail until it starts up again in Gros Cap. In total this trail took us about an hour and a half, however much longer if you need to trail break in the wintertime.
