We were talking a walk down Parkshore Drive in the east end of Sault Ste. Marie, ON, and found a pathway that lead between two yards and into the bushes. It turned into a nice trail and forked almost immediately after we cleared the yards.
The trail to the right lead to another fork. Continuing right there was a large open area that came out onto Queen St. The path to the left however lead us down to the St. Mary's River. There were plenty of Alder trees and some Birch trees as we continued up river where we eventually came to a clearing that looked like it could be an unofficial boat launch. It was hard to tell with all the snow.
Shortly after, we came to another fork. Turning right took us back to the beginning for a total of about 15 minutes. Turning left continued up river past what looked like an old fort o something. There was and old broken couch and freezer buried in the snow that looked to be a hangout spot for teens due to the pop cans and beer cans scattered on the ground. We continued past this "fort".
We soon came to a small stream which we easily crossed and continued up along the river behind the water treatment plant. There gradually became more and more Popular trees mixed in.
We eventually came to another clearing as the tail veered away from the river back toward Queen St. We weaved our way through a woody patch between the water treatment plant and the properties on Barber Blvd.
We emerged on Queen St. to discover that the trail continued on the other side of the road. We followed it as it weaved up and down, around the hills by the storage facility, before it finally ended up at the end of Crestwood Ave.
If you are hungry, there is a nice little sandwhich cafe on Millwood (which connects with Crestwood, near Queen. It is the only sandwhich cafe in this area of town if you are looking for something healthy and homemade, that isn't fast food.
