Located on Echo River Road in the Garden River Reserve, just east of Sault Ste. Marie, Trap rock has free parking with obvious signage. Make sure to bring bug repellent. The trail is clearly marked with raspberry signs.
Entering the trail, we immediately started climbing. There were some loose rocks, but we felt safe even with our baby, Maya in the harness on my chest. The first hill had a short side trail at the top that didn't really go anywhere. The top of the hill was very narrow as we were almost immediately heading back down hill.
It wasn't long before the trail turned and cut across the hill. There was a great assortment of vegetation along the trail that we enjoyed and we soon came to a pretty steep hill. We worked our way up the hill and soon came to a rocky clearing with assorted berries.
We followed the trail along the rocks and came out at a look-out overlooking the highway, Echo lake, Lake Huron, and the St. Mary's River in the distance. It was quite the scenic view. At the high point, there was a small spike sticking out of the ground with beaded necklaces around it.
Our baby Maya loved the view from the lookout. When we had our fill of the scenery, we followed the same trail back down to the parking lot.
