Total trail time: 15-20 minutes

Located about 5-10 minutes east of Leamington, on the shore of Lake Erie, Wheatley Provincial Park offers excellent camping.  The staff were friendly and helpful and the shop has many of the items needed for camping, as well as souvenirs.

There are two short hiking trails, including one featuring a bridge across a creek, and the other an winds through a forest full of many types of trees. These trails were very flat, and could easily be hiked by young kids or older adults.  There is the option to borrow fishing gear if you have your fishing license.  The park also holds a free fishing derby for kids every August, where prizes are awarded for biggest fish.  There were fish jumping in the creek as well as many scenic picture opportunities.

There is a park for quite a distance along the shoreline of Lake Erie, with many beautiful trees and valleys. It also has several picnic tables and pavilions, a volleyball net, swing sets, and teeter totters.   There are steep banks along most of the shoreline, but many access points.  At the end of the road seemed to be the best place for swimming.

There was a strip of rocks between the sand and the water that went aways into the water, where it dropped off fairly quickly.  The water was clear and warm, although there was a bit of scattered drift wood around. The water is suitable for swimming, but at your own risk since they have no lifeguards on duty.  There are also no change stations, but there is a couple bathrooms along the shorefront.

The camping areas each have their own shower and bathroom facilities. There were beautiful large trees with vines tangling their way up the trunks.  In our area, the lots were decent size and reasonably spaced for privacy (the Boosey creek camping area).  I recommend this camping area because it is part of the quiet zone, and we prefer peaceful camping trips.  We saw lots of wildlife during our stay, and we even encountered a cute raccoon one night.
